What type of wildflower season will we have in 2009?

Joe Willis, naturalist and high school/college teacher: "One can never be certain, the Farmer's Almanac notwithstanding, because weather conditions can change dramatically.  Right now, April 7, it seems to me we have the right combination of warmth and moisture for a banner year.  Also, I am already seeing the young leaves of many species of flowers I recognize in the 2500' to 3500' range of elevation."

"However, a late frost, or an unusually windy and dry period could reduce that bounty before it arrives.  I'm optimistic, though, because I'm seeing a few new species blooming every couple of days.  Further south, say in the Yosemite region, they're having a banner year in the lower elevations.  We should, too."
